Introduction to
ECEC Network

The European Civic Education Collaborative Network (ECEC Network) stands as a pioneering initiative in the realm of civic education across Europe. Recognizing the critical role of civic education in shaping informed, engaged citizens capable of contributing to democratic societies, the network brings together organizations from diverse European countries to collectively address the challenges and opportunities in this field.

The purpose of this collaborative network is to become a space of encounter in which participating organizations can address some challenges of civic education for the 21st century, through the conceptualization of a shared vision on civic education -linked to the concept of whole child development (WCD)-, the identification of transformative experiences showcasing that vision, and the communication of the results to both the academy and to European civic leaders, in order to influence future European social leadership in non-formal educational spaces.

Context

In an era marked by rapid technological advancements, globalization, and evolving socio-political landscapes, the importance of civic education has never been more pronounced. In response to these dynamics, the ECEC Network emerges as a proactive effort to ensure that civic education remains relevant, impactful, and inclusive, catering to the diverse needs and contexts of European societies.

At the heart of the ECEC Network lies a shared vision of civic education deeply rooted in the concept of whole child development. This holistic approach emphasizes not only the acquisition of knowledge and skills but also the cultivation of values, attitudes, and behaviors necessary for active citizenship. By fostering critical thinking, empathy, social responsibility, and intercultural competence, the network seeks to empower individuals to meaningfully participate in democratic processes and contribute to the common good.
